About Rent-A-Prop
A bit about me…
Why do I offer commissioned rentals?
My name is Helen and I founded Rent-A-Prop after many years supporting small scale drama and film productions with what’s fair to say my rather unusual set of skills.
After creating a dead gyrfalcon prop for a local production of Sheila’s Island by Tim Firth and suddenly finding a demand for renting my work. I decided to set up Rent-A-Prop to help facilitate small scale amateur film and theatre groups produce the shows they wanted.
Lets face it writers and directors come up with some fantastic ideas for shows but it can be a stage manager’s nightmare to source those weirdly specific props and puppets to put on a production. Not to mention the quality of the prop, cost and at the end of the production many large props get left to gather dust and can be hard to reuse or sell on.
I create mythical creature models using techniques learned from SFX studios and specialise in making realistic animal puppets. Having worked with some of these animals I have an eye for detail and I have a collection of weird and wonderful creations some of which have already appeared on stage.
Commissioning my work directly can be expensive. I use high quality specialist materials and spend many hours creating each one. A lot of passion and skill goes into each creation.
I offer various puppets, models and props to be purchased out right, commissioned for exclusive use, rented or commissioned for rental.
I am very aware though that an outright purchase price is out of budget for many small theatre groups. Which is why I offer the commission rental model. This allows me to continue to create puppets and props for productions and theatre groups to stay in budget.
